I love traveling. If I could do just one thing for the rest of my life, it would probably be traveling. I would even go as far as saying that travel is my hobby, even though I only get to do it maybe two or three times a year – depending on my financial situation.
Still, it’s one of the things in life I enjoy the most. I’m lucky enough to have been raised by a mother that loves holidays and traveling as much as me, so I grew up exploring different parts of the world. But I haven’t seen nearly enough yet.
And just as any other fellow travelers with wanderlust in their hearts, I have a kind of bucket list of places that I absolutely must visit as soon as possible. Now, this list is obscenely long, so I had to break it apart into smaller pieces to keep it achievable.
So what did I do? I decided which places were me absolute priority and put them in my travel bucket list for the next five years. It’s as following:
Road Trip Through The USA
It’s a classic, isn’t it? I’ve been dreaming about going on a road trip through North America since I was a teenager. This year, I’ve been to San Francisco and a bit of the outskirts of it, and I was amazed by the sheer size of this country. I’m all the more thrilled to explore the rest of it after this visit!
Sadly, I have yet to get my driver’s license to be able to rent a car over there, so this dream might still take me a while. (Although I have already started researching the possibilities of a road trip by train! )
I have heard so many good things about Costa Rica by now that I almost feel like I’ve been there myself. But, sadly, I haven’t! The lush rain forests and fauna intrigue me the most, but I can hardly say no to heavenly beaches as well. Costa Rica, I’m coming for you, just you wait and see.
A country that hasn’t been on my radar for very long, but what I learnt about it in this last year intrigued me enough to put it in my priority list.
Tulum is the hottest new destination to go when you have money to spend – or so it seems. And not without good reason – Tulum is a treasure trove not yet spoiled by too much tourism. Its white sandy beaches and wild coasts promise a raw experience amidst nature, while the abundance of trendy boutique hotels popping up stand in an interesting contrast. I definitely want to visit this gem of a place very soon!
I’m simply writing Hawaii as a general term because I still can’t decide which islands and places I want to explore – most likely every single one. I think we’re starting to see a pattern here, with me and white beaches and lush forests and the promise of adventures… Well, what can I say?
Banff National Park, Canada
I love National Parks, I really do. I’ve had only one day to spend in Yosemite National Park this summer and I was seriously sad when we had to leave in the evening. There is so much space in these parks, and so much to see! I mean, as someone born in Switzerland, I’m kind of used to be around nature, but damn – the size of these things!
Alaska has always been this fairy tale place in my mind, with huge snow covered mountains and fields of flowers beneath them. Anchorage is said to be the place where you can experience all of Alaska’s beauty in one place – that’s all I really need to know, honestly.
My mom has been to Vietnam in 2015 and basically every single thing she told me about it made me desperately want to go there as well. This is one of the journeys where you have to take your time to really experience it, so it’s not really in the cards for me yet. I do hope I can some day realize this trip in the five years to come, though.
My grandmother was born and raised in Kolkata. I’ve always wanted to explore India with her by my side, so she could show me all the places that were important to her. Sadly, she passed before we could realize this dream of ours. But that’s not stopping me from wanting to explore my roots in India. This is a trip I’d like to put together with the help of my father and my aunt and all the photos, letters and videos my grandmother left behind, so I can visit all the important spots my grandmother once stood.
I know, I know – another set of lush paradise islands. I just can’t help it, okay? But apart from the fantastic looks, the Guadeloupe Islands have a whole lot of interesting culture to offer. Count me in!
So this is my travel bucket list for the next five years. I hope I can tick off every single one! What countries or places are on your travel bucket list? Leave a comment below!
